Cupcake beanie

This is my personal creation. My mother-in-law told me that my sister-in-law had started chemo treatment and I decided to make her a beanie to wish her a speedy recovery. My mother-in-law also started to learn how to knit shortly after I started, and she had been knitting some beanies. So I do not want to knit a beanie out of a kit or pattern, I want something different and unique. I also wanted to knit in ‘We are knitters’ meriwool since it is so soft I often bury my face in the yarn when I knit.

My inspiration is from a cupcake.

Materials: 1 ball of meriwool in aquamarine, and 1 ball of meriwool in sprinkle purple. You can substitute aquamarine for any solid color and sprinkle purple for sprinkle fantasy.

Needles: US size 11/ 8 mm

Pattern: cast on 60 stitches and work 14 rows to form the band (k2, p2, k2, p2 etc for all odd number rows. P2, k2, p2, k2 etc for all even number rows) which can be worn folded up or cuffed. Then work 26 rows in stockinette stitch. Thread tapestry needle through stitches and cinch and pull and sew up the sides. Viola.

Happy knitting and thank you for reading.

With salmon meriwool: for my friend Kathleen who has breast cancer
